New River Gorge Bridge Walk Tour: My First CoreniaBug Travel Vlog
New River Gorge Bridge Walk Tour: My First CoreniaBug Travel Vlog Adventure
The New River Gorge Bridge Walk Tour was stop #1 on my road trip adventure and my very first CoreniaBug travel vlog. I started this trip in southern West Virginia at New River Gorge National Park, and let me tell you — this was not your average little stroll through the woods.
I walked the full 3,030-foot length of the New River Gorge Bridge on a tiny 24-inch-wide catwalk tucked underneath the road, sitting about 876 feet above the ground.
Yes, I was nervous.
Yes, it was windy.
Yes, I made dad jokes anyway.
And yes… I actually dangled my feet over the edge.

Getting Ready for the Bridge Walk
Before stepping onto the bridge, we had to check in and get fitted with safety gear. Everyone wears a harness, and anything you bring with you has to be secured. Phones, cameras, and personal items can’t just be loose in your pockets because, well, dropping something from almost 900 feet up is probably frowned upon.
This part made the whole experience feel very real. The guides were helpful and explained everything clearly, which helped calm my nerves a little before the walk began.
After check-in, we made our way down the steep path toward the bridge. That walk down alone gets your heart pumping a bit. It’s not just a “show up and walk across” kind of thing — it already feels like an adventure before you even step onto the catwalk.
Stepping Out onto the 24-Inch Catwalk
The moment I stepped onto the catwalk, I realized just how high we really were.
The catwalk is only 24 inches wide, and it runs directly underneath the bridge. Above us, cars were flying by on the road. Below us, the New River Gorge stretched out with trees, train tracks, and huge views in every direction.
At first, I was gripping the railing pretty tightly. The wind was cold, the cars were loud, and my brain was doing that helpful little thing where it reminds you that you are walking hundreds of feet in the air.
Thanks, brain. Very cool.
But after a while, the nerves started turning into excitement. The views were incredible, and seeing West Virginia from that angle was something I’ll never forget.
The Views Were Worth the Nerves
One of the coolest parts of the walk was seeing the train far below us. From that height, everything looked tiny, but the view was massive. The forest, the river, the bridge structure, and the mountains all came together in a way that felt almost unreal.
There were moments where I stopped being nervous and just looked around like, “Wow, I’m really doing this.”
And then the wind would hit me again and remind me, “Yep, you are still way up here.”
At one point, our tour guide recommended dangling our feet over the edge for the full experience. So I did it.
Was it scary? Absolutely.
Was it worth it? Also absolutely.
That was one of those moments that made the whole adventure feel even more memorable.
My First CoreniaBug Travel Vlog
This Bridge Walk was the perfect way to kick off my first ever CoreniaBug travel vlog. It had everything: beautiful scenery, nervous laughs, random jokes, cold wind, loud cars, and just enough chaos to make it feel like a real CoreniaBug adventure.
I wanted this vlog to show what the experience actually feels like — not just the pretty postcard version. You’ll see the check-in, the safety gear, the steep walk down, the catwalk, the height, the wind, the views, and my honest reactions along the way.
Whether you’re planning your own New River Gorge Bridge Walk Tour, looking for things to do in West Virginia, or just watching for the dad jokes and adventure chaos, this vlog gives you a real look at what it’s like to walk underneath one of America’s most famous bridges.
Tips for Doing the New River Gorge Bridge Walk
Here are a few tips from my experience:
Dress in layers. Even if the weather seems nice, the wind underneath the bridge can feel chilly.
Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be walking a long distance on a narrow catwalk, so sturdy shoes make a difference.
Secure your belongings. The safety rules are strict, but they make sense when you’re that high up.
Listen to your guides. They explain the safety rules, bridge facts, and what to expect during the tour.
Bring a sense of humor. Nervous jokes helped me relax, and honestly, dad jokes are basically emotional support at this point.
Why This Bridge Walk Stands Out
The New River Gorge Bridge Walk is more than just a walk. It’s part thrill, part sightseeing, part history, and part “why did I agree to this?” in the best possible way.
You get to see the bridge from a perspective most people never experience. Instead of driving over it or looking at it from below, you’re walking underneath it, feeling the size and strength of the structure while surrounded by some of the most beautiful views in West Virginia.
For me, this was the perfect first stop on my road trip adventure. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, gave me an unforgettable view, and started the CoreniaBug travel vlog series with a big moment.
Not a bad way to begin.
